Controlled Smoke

Description
Clean smoke drifts from the exhaust stack at Griffin Pipe plant after being filtered through a series of some 500 dacron bags, part of the smoke abatement system. The much-discussed system which has caused considerable trouble over the past few months has been repaired and further improvements are on schedule during a two-week vacation shutdown in July, according to Plant Engineer Jeff Bradley. Extreme heat has caused a warping of the cupola cap which will be replaced in July. The cap forces the cupola smoke through the cooling and cleaning system, Bradley said.
