Before Firefighters Arrived...the wooden elevators of the Bluffs Elevator Co. were a wall of flame. George R. Cockle photographed this scene standing on a locomotive about 300 yards from the fire. It was taken about 5 minutes after the initial blast. The semi-tractor trailers in the foreground were moved between railroad tracks away from the elevators. Many of the cars and trucks were damaged by fire and falling debris. Cockle provided this photo and the photo to the left exclusively to the Nonpareil
