The Castle . . . as it is known to Oakland residents, has guarded the town's southern entrance along Highway 6 since about 1917. The home, now owned by Michael O'Brien, got its nickname from the stylish turret at southeast corner of the home.
Northbound Motorists . . . on Highway 6 see this view of a distinctive home just before they enter Oakland. The granite stone house called "The Castle", has 18-inch-thick exterior walls. The outside remains the same as when it was built in 1913.
