Restoration of the 100-year-old main staircase in the Kiel Hotel is almost complete. Jere Robinson and Don Blankenship, employees of Life Style Inc., make some last-minute measurements Thursday on the refinished bannister leading to the second floor. The 24-foot-long staircase was completely removed and rebuilt, said Robinson. New flooring and sidewalls were added, along with a steel reinforcing plate to stop the staircase from sagging, he said. The project, except for staining the new wood and bare bannister, could be finished Friday, he said.
