Sidewalk petition may force installation assessment plan

Description

Concil Bluffs City Councilman Sam Irwin has filed a petition from 26 residents asking the city to install a sidewalk along Madison Avenue from Palmer Avenue to Bennett Avenue. There are currently no sidewalks on either side of Madison Avenue--a heavily-traveled route to the Mall of Bluffs--and pedestrians have worn paths in the lawns of residents along the street. Council action on the petition could lead to a city policy on assessing property owners for sidewalk improvements.
