Description

Council Bluffs Changing Scene--Built around 1850, this was the first meeting place of Council Bluffs Lodge 49 of the Oddfellows. It was on the southeast corner of Stutsman and Pierce Streets. The date of the photo is not known, but it is from the files the Free Public Library.
[The circular on the front door appears to be an advertisement for Purdy Celebrated Cottage Bitters, which was first formulated in the mid-1860s, so photo is probably ca 1867; a similar ad appeared in the Nonpareil in 1867]
