Portrait of Mother Vincent McDermott, Sister of Mercy.
Printed on back of image: "Mother Vincent McDermott, Religious Sister of Mercy (1856-1937), came to Council Bluffs in September, 1887 and established St. Bernard's Hospital. The first hospital was a rented frame dwelling located on Fourth Street and Ninth Avenue which had formerly been the home of John Hanthorn. In May of 1888, the Sisters of Mercy purchased the Conrad Geise residence on the corner of Frank and Harmony Streets and established what was later to be known as St. Bernard's Hospital."
