Description

Dead elm trees have been vanishing from city parking in Council Bluffs as the rate of 1,435 in less than a year. The city contracted last fall with Havelone Construction Company for removal of the diseased or dead trees and a new contract for removal of more trees will probably be advertised this week, according to Dale Mills, public works director. A new count of dead trees on city parking should be ready by Tuesday. At Lincoln Avenue and Pierce Street last week, Havelone Construction temporarily blocked traffic while sawing down a tree measuring 40 inches in diameter and 90 feet tall.
