Description

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad spoke at dedication ceremonies for the new flag plaza at the Lewis and Clark monument in Council Bluffs Saturday morning, and donated an Iowa flag. Dorothy Smith of U.S. Rep. Jim Lightfoot's office presented an American flag. Funds for the plaza were donated by Council Bluffs Savings Bank and the Council Bluffs Business Association. The 51-year-old monument is being restored by the Lewis and Clark Restoration Committee and the Council Bluffs Parks Department. Nonpareil photo by John Leu.
