Truman Furgeson, superintendent for Allied Structural Steel Co., Hammond, Ind. watches as crews continue whittling away at the bones of the Ak-Sar_Ben Bridge on the Nebraska side of the Missouri River. Bridge portions in the water were fished out last week and Furgeson expects the last span to collapse sometime Monday. Demolition work was hampered last week by ice chunks four-feet thick, he said. Demolition of the bridge piers in mid-stream will begin next week. --Nonpareil Photo.
