Description
Once the seat of government of a vast and powerful colony that stretched to the Mississippi, the colonial Capitol building at Williamsburg, Va., has been carefully reconstructed to its appearance of the early 1700s. Here met the House of Burgesses, America's first representative assembly, the important Governor's Council, and the high court. The structure was ordered built in 1699 when Williamsburg became the capital of the Virginia colony. The 40 members of The Nonpareil's summer holiday tour will visit Williamsburg on Monday, July 6.
