Description
(1) Setting Type . . . with an Intertype machine has been one of Russ Haley's duties. The machine is being replaced by computers and photographic paper.
(2) Composing An Ad . . . using new computerized equipment is Larry Hedrick.
All of the keys on his keyboard are used to tell the computer next to the keyboard what size and style of type to use.
(3) Placing Type . . . into its position in a lead process page "chase" is Don Torrez.
(4) Pulling a "Mat" . . . off a newly cast lead press plate are Dave Birdsong and Loarn Kelley.
(5) Ready To Photograph . . . a page of newspaper is Shawn Story. The camera records what is on the page pasteup and prepares the negatives to be used to make a plastic printing plate.
(6) Placing A Lead Plate . . . on the press is one of Jack Smith's duties. With the new process the plastic plates will weigh a few ounces instead of about 60 pounds.
(7) Holding A Plastic Plate . . . in his hands is Harry Smith of the pressroom staff. The new plate will clip on to the cylinders of the press.
