This overlooks the modest gardens, but presents the city of Vienna to the north, with the spire of St. Stefansdom in the background. It was at Belvedere that the late Secretary of State Dulles signed the peace treaty in 1955 - the only foreign envoy of the four Allied nations to receive a cheer from the residents of Vienna as he drove to the palace to attach the signature for the U.S.
