Description

New Mexico Is . . . a cultural layer cake of people set in the dimension of the state's open spaces. There are people like artist Tom Marcione of Santa Fe (top left), Jerry Mirabel, a Taos Indian whose claim to fame is having had his picture on a Santa Fe Railroad calendar (top right), an old Indian woman whose face mirrors the peace of living with nature (lower left), and Fray Angelico Chavez, a Franciscan historian who, in his cap and black habit, looks as though he might have marched north with the conquistadore, Coronado, in 1540.
