Birdsall, assistant vice-president and manager for the Western Division of Iowa Power, demonstrates the vehicle at the firm's work center. The Federal Power Commission estimates 38 million electric vehicles will be in use in the U.S. by 1990, and Iowa Power's experience will aid in research data. Power for the trucks comes from two giant 56-volt batteries, with speeds up to 40 miles per hour.</text>
