He recalled that the gasoline pumps were inside the station and the hose was hauled out through a window to fill vehicles. Built in 1896 on the south shore it doubled as a recreation and dining hall. The platform extending over the water collapsed in 1906 and six people were killed. McQueen, 100 Third St., in November of 1954. Looking west from Franklin Avenue, just north of Bennett Avenue, a person saw acres of rolling hills, an apple orchard, woodland and plowed fields. There were few houses, upper left, in the area. Then came the need for more building sites and people with imagination.
