The lonely home was occupied by John Gebuhr, who owns the photograph. At that time, a crushed brick street passed his home and led to the hill at far right. Gebuhr recalls when the building at far left was under suspicion by the revenue men. he said, "Right around [19??] during the prohibition days, the revenue men discovered it housed a distillery and they raided it." The building also a housed a sewing machine store, millinery store and print shop. This picture belongs to Mrs. D.B. Stoufer, who owns the present Ogden House. It is kept in the antique room there. It housed many store rooms on the ground floor, in addition to offices, clubrooms and--at one time--the public library on the upper floors. The building was razed in 1938. This picture was made from a pencil sketch drawn by Gail Connelly of 3325 Avenue B, a park department employee. ["Today" photo published in the Nonpareil is not present in the file, but the caption reads: "Today...the view from the same corner of Willow Ave. and Main St. has changed considerably. The modern City Building replaces the old Merriam block. It was constructed in 1939 by W.P.A. workmen. the south win of the building, at the left, is used by the police department.
