<dcterms:description>Towering Chimney, the last landmark of the J.F. Wilcox greenhouses off Highway 6 near North Avenue, fell to the ground Thursday afternoon with the help of a 2,000-pound wrecking ball at the end of an 85 foot crane boom.
The ticklish operation was accomplished by workmen from Paulson Construction Company.
Crane Operator Pete McNeal bumped a hole in the stack (picture No. 1) about a third of the way from the top sending that section to the ground (Picture No. 20.
A few minutes after the top fell, the heavy ball battered down the balance of the stack which was more than 100 fee tall (Picture No. 3). [This photo is Picture No. 3.]
A second stack was to be felled Friday.
The former greenhouse site is being cleared by the Midlands Financial Crop. for new development.
Workmen were cautious of the old stack as high winds whistled through the construction area.
Midlands has not yet announced what plans have been made for the area. Rows of greenhouses have been demolished and hauled away.
The property is immediately east of BLuff Plaza, a new shopping center.</dcterms:description>
