Printed on back of image: "Mother Vincent McDermott, Religious Sister of Mercy (1856-1937), came to Council Bluffs in September, 1887 and established St. Bernard's Hospital. The first hospital was a rented frame dwelling located on Fourth Street and Ninth Avenue which had formerly been the home of John Hanthorn.
