Ashton, Iowa City consulting engineer and former professor of civil engineering at the U of I, designed the footbridge, which recently won the top architectural award given by Project Green of Iowa City for this year. Doug Primmer, county auditor and election commissioner, and Gary Galle, deputy in charge of elections, inspect the first shipment. the 89 machines, which cost $2,206 each, will be stored at the Scofield Warehouse, 1102 S. Main St. along with machines the county already has. Primmer said the machines will save the county money by reducing the number of election workers and recounts. Future elections in the county will be carried out with machines rather than paper ballots. ]]></dcterms:description>
