The race was one of the features at the Thursday night show at the Pottawattamie County Fair at Avoca.  Also in the first heat was George Schueman of Oakland whose bird took an early lead (out of camera range) and eluded handlers at the finish line, taking Schueman for a fast ride around the quarter mile track at the fairgrounds.
