Printed on reverse of image: &quot;November 24, 1931 - The second story of the above building on the revers side was occupied as the first Hall or Lodge Room of the Council Bluffs Lodge No. 49 I.O.O.F October 26th, 1853, the exact location being near the southeast corner of Pierce and Stutsman Streets. The Lodge Room was lighted with tallow candles. General Grenville M. Dodge was initiated a member in this lodge room on Christmas Eve - December 24th, 1855. In May 1857, the lodge was removed to Hagg&#039;s Hall, Nos. 133 and 134 West Broadway.]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Hundreds of Johnson County settlers gathered around Old Capitol in the early 1850&#039;s for the Johnson County Fair. The building was still unfinished at this time and had not been completed in December, 1857, when it became the property of the State University of Iowa, which had been founded in 1847, only two months later than the beginning of Iowa statehood. During the 100 years that it has been a part of the SUI campus, Old Capitol has served as a focal point for University life.]]></dcterms:description>
