<dcterms:description>Organization of the Emanuel Lutheran church was effected on Nov. 20, 1890, at the German Lutheran church on Seventh avenue.
Fifteen persons formed the first congregation, of which six were men, three were women and the remainder were children. They had been ministered to previously to formal organization by Rev. J.A. Elving and A.L. Scott, a seminary student.
Rev. A.F. Nelson, Fremont, Neb., was chairman of the organization meeting. Charter members were J. A. Ahlstrand, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Swanson, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Ekberg, Peter Nelson and Lars Hanson.
The first meetings were held at the German church and alter in Danebo hall. A small hall at 37 North Main street was next engaged for meeting purposes. In September of 1891 a building committee was elected. In February of the following year the lots at Seventh and Mill streets were purchased for $2,000.
Cornerstone of the present church was laid in September of 1893. The first service was held in the basement of the church during the same month. The first service in the church proper was held in August of 1895 although the church was not dedicated until 1897. During the building program the membership of the congregation was between thirty-five and forty.
The congregation now has 207 members.
The following pastors have served the church: C.G. Widen, J.E. Rydback, P.M. Lindeen, S.G. Larson, A.A. Magnusson, B.M. Glim, E.N. Glad, E.J. Holt, Carl Henderson, C.W. Segerhammar and N.E. Hedeen, present pastor. </dcterms:description>
