Gebuhr sold the home recently and built another behind it. The street is paved today, and lined with trees. The hill in the 1918 photo has been taken away to make room for housing development on the street--known as one of the better residential streets in the city. The lonely home was occupied by John Gebuhr, who owns the photograph. At that time, a crushed brick street passed his home and led to the hill at far right. Gebuhr recalls when the building at far left was under suspicion by the revenue men. he said, "Right around [19??] during the prohibition days, the revenue men discovered it housed a distillery and they raided it." Note the hill at the far right and also that only a few trees were growing at this time.
