    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Opening A Hatch...on the three-foot scale model of the steamship Bertrand is John Carrier, park service employee at the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge near Missouri Valley.  The steamer model, which the Bertrand museum just purchased for $300, was made by the late E.,E. Roberson, who used a variety of materials.  The whistle is actually a spent .22 caliber shell.  All the hatches, cables and winches on the model are functional.]]></dcterms:description>

The monument, in front of the Little Flower Haven Nursing Home, was constructed by Msgr. N.A. Gaul, 81, a resident at the home. The curved structure, of multicolored stone, features statures of Mary, kneeling children and sheep on an inlaid marble platform. Globe lamps mounted on various levels light the 20-foot-tall monument at night. An open air Mass is conducted annually at the site by Bishop Maurice Dingman of Des Moines.]]></dcterms:description>
