Johnson said the local crop looks good with a yield of 100 to 150 bushels per acre. The anticipated decline of eastern production has brought a favorable market to this area. The barges, loaded in about four hours, hold nearly 40,000 bushes. They are headed for New Orleans to be exported. The Monday loading was the third barge with many more expected before the navigation season ends on Dec. 1.
