But one of the former residents of the park, an elk, is missing daily meals with Dave, the park's bull buffalo, and another elk. The elk was traded to the Carroll County Conservation Service for two white, fallow deer. The deer were a little shy and didn't want to pose for the photographer, but they should soon get over their bashfulness and be as friendly as the rest of the animals in the park. The buffaloes and the park elks were forced to stand on high ground for nearly 36 hours in the stream which was moving at about 2-1/2 miles per hour until rescue operations could be completed. The baby buffalo and baby elk, Sally, are now safe and being kept in a barn at the east edge of Hancock until the waters from the river recede.
