The picture is a computer-enhanced image made using pictures of Johnny between the ages of 2 and 12 and pictures of his parents, depicting how the youth would look today. The river, just beyond the cabins, backed up in a low spot (foreground) covering a road to the cabins at the right. Note the carbon arc light tower at the left of the building.  The tower marked the debut of the marvels of electricity in Council Bluffs in 1883.  This artist&#039;s conception of the Masonic Temple was published in the View Folder by Frank Cook.<br />
[Companion photo from 1954 is not in the file, but the caption for it in the Nonpareil reads: &quot;Today...the trolleys have disappeared, but the building stands as it did in 1888--minus the tower on top of the Masonic Temple. There is currently one one vacant lot on the street which stretches about one-fourth of a mile from North Broadway to the east city limits.  Gebuhr sold the home recently and built another behind it.  The street is paved today, and lined with trees.  The hill in the 1918 photo has been taken away to make room for housing development on the street--known as one of the better residential streets in the city.  The population of Council Bluffs today is about 45,400.]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Council Bluffs Changing Scene--Back in 1918, when the United States was at war with Germany, Locust Lodge looked like this.  The lonely home was occupied by John Gebuhr, who owns the photograph.  At that time, a crushed brick street passed his home and led to the hill at far right.  Gebuhr recalls when the building at far left was under suspicion by the revenue men.  he said, &quot;Right around [19??] during the prohibition days, the revenue men discovered it housed a distillery and they raided it.&quot; Note the hill at the far right and also that only a few trees were growing at this time.]]></dcterms:description>
