    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Council Bluffs Changing Scene--The old Merriam block, as viewed from Willow Ave. and Main St., was a fine three-story building, with lots of fancy trim.  It housed  many store rooms on the ground floor, in addition to offices, clubrooms and--at one time--the public library on the upper floors.  The building was razed in 1938.  This picture was made from a pencil sketch drawn by Gail Connelly of 3325 Avenue B, a park department employee.<br />

&quot;Today...the view from the same corner of Willow Ave. and Main St. has changed considerably.  The modern City Building replaces the old Merriam block.  It was constructed in 1939 by W.P.A. workmen.  the south win of the building, at the left, is used by the police department. Part of the fourth floor was burned by a fire in 1871 and the rest of the building has been remodeled.  The building now houses, in addition to the hotel, a bicycle shop and appliance store.  As it has been through the years, the Ogden is still a busy hotel.]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Council Bluffs Changing Scene--The Ogden House at Park Ave. and Broadway was one of the most popular places in Council Bluffs when this photo was taken 85 years ago.  Note the people on the roof of the four-story structure.  Oil lamps lighted the sidewalks, while horse drawn carriages took guests to and from the hotel.  The building also a housed a sewing machine store, millinery store and print shop. This picture belongs to Mrs. D.B. Stoufer, who owns the present Ogden House.
